Batik Course (Batik Tulis)
Join our MOANA Hand-Made Batik Course for a fun and creative two-hour experience, perfect for anyone eager to explore Indonesia's cultural heritage! Running from 11:00 to 13:00, you'll get hands-on as we guide you through the batik-making process.
The course will be led by Ms. Sekar, a Batik Art student from ISI, the most renowned art university in Jogja. With her expert guidance, even beginners will find it easy to create their own batik masterpiece.
Highlight:
- Choose the fabric: We start by giving you a piece of cotton fabric to work with, which is the base for your batik.
- Sketching your design: Next, you’ll draw your chosen design directly onto the fabric using a pencil. Don’t worry, our instructors will help with ideas or templates if needed!
- Wax application (Canting): Using a special tool called a “canting,” you’ll apply hot wax to the outlines of your design. The wax acts as a barrier and keeps certain parts of the fabric from absorbing the dye.
- Dyeing the fabric: Once the wax has dried, you’ll dip the fabric into the dye. You can choose from a variety of colors! The waxed parts will resist the dye, leaving your design intact.
- Final touches: The fabric is then rinsed and dried, and voilà—you now have your very own handmade batik!
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with your own hand-crafted batik and a deeper appreciation for this beautiful art form. 🙂
