About Us
We didn’t start MOANA to simply offer another tour. We started it because we wanted the world to see a different side of Yogyakarta — one that doesn’t show up on postcards or travel hashtags.
I wanted people to taste underrated home-cooked dishes, prepared with heart by locals. To ride through quiet villages where the rhythm of life hasn’t changed much in decades. To experience Jogja not through crowded markets, but through the warm greetings of a mother selling herbal drinks, or a father handcrafting pottery in the back of his home.
All of this — culture, cuisine, and connection — becomes accessible, simply by riding a bike.
MOANA is my way of promoting sustainable tourism that creates real jobs and celebrates local culture, just as envisioned in SDG 8. We work closely with communities along our cycling routes, helping them prepare to sell their crafts, food, and stories. We involve university students and young creatives from Yogyakarta, giving them work opportunities rooted in purpose.
And the results speak for themselves: over 25% of our economic impact is shared with the locals. It’s not just about sightseeing — it’s about uplifting.
Through every tour, I’m not just guiding people through scenic roads. We are helping build a more inclusive economy, one ride at a time.
Our Values
Our company began with a simple visit and beach clean up event that sparked a realization in our founder, Anita Briana. As she witnessed the amount of litter that humans leave in the ocean (Ocean = MOANA), despite the many benefits it provides us, she knew that something needed to change. From that moment, she had a dream of creating a travel organizer that would prioritize educating people about sustainability during their travels. Following our belief value:

Our tours are organized mostly by college students who are passionate about showing you the best of Yogyakarta. We focus on providing you with local AUTHENTIC experiences, taking you to hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path destinations that are not promoted in guidebooks. MOANA has planted over 200 tree saplings, restored 1,200 mangrove trees, and contributed to the conservation and release of 100 baby turtles (tukik) back to their natural habitat.

All plastic waste generated from our tours is 100% recycled through collaboration with local waste banks and recycling partners. We also ensure that all waste from our office operations is properly managed and sustainably handled.

Since 2020, we’ve inspired more than 10,000 travelers to embrace sustainable tourism and mindful travel and more than 55K followers on social media.
